A deep frown was etched onto the shinigami’s face when the students strolled in for their final lesson. “Well, it really shouldn’t have surprised me, being the worthless creatures you are, but no one completed the assignment?” She scowled, glaring darkly from one face to the next before waving a hand in the air. “Whatever, I hope you enjoyed the little lesson, after all, I’m not the one struggling to escape.”

Ida tapped the board behind her where she had drawn a few crooked-looking gapes and white squiggly lines above them. “Finally, you’ll learn about the shadow mines in the Shadow Realm. The quiet murderers that will kill you if you’re not careful. They look like vents in the ground and although usually unnoticeable, they will release white smoke when they’re about to go off. Like this, see?” The student professor motions to the crude drawings proudly.

Padding back and forth leisurely in front of the podium, she continues, “Anyways, your task this time, is to count the number of mines that set off within a certain parameter, say this classroom although you could choose anywhere really, and within twenty minutes. You would have mastered this already if you all had done the assignment last time, but since you didn’t, then I feel the need to repeat that you must have practiced entering and exiting the Shadow Realm.” Almost as an after thought, the shinigami smiles and adds, “And of course, don’t get too close to the mines. We wouldn’t want you to be loosing an arm or a leg now would we?”
